Product development project planners plan and track the progress of numerous drawings
developed, coordinated, and released together as a single design.
Complex constraints exist between drawings. Changes impact "completed" and in-progress
drawings. Program design teams require a means to reliably forecast overall design
completion and identify delays early enough to respond constructively.
Solution
IMSI planners implement PMbase/Metrics Module to evaluate progress. They track the
status of each drawing and overall design work without critical path method (CPM)
which often strains to model this type of work.
By measuring input and throughput, planners evaluate historical trends, current status,
and forecasts to identify potential problems.
Result
Delays which are not "visible" using critical path method are localized and
addressed earlier. The approach also provides progress profiles useful on future
programs.
